Phillies Recap - Week 2

Monday, April 14, 2008 · 0 Comments

Games (starter): 3-3
Phillies 5 @ Mets 2 (Moyer)
Phillies 2 @ Mets 8 (Kendrick)
Phillies 3 @ Mets 4 12 in. (Eaton)
Cubs 3 @ Phillies 5 (Myers)
Cubs 1 @ Phillies 7 (Hamels)
Cubs 6 @ Phillies 5 10 in. (Moyer)

Jamie Moyer was very good versus the Mets in game one and Kyle Kendrick looked terrible in the second, even though 1 of the seven runs was earned. Adam Eaton was OK in his start versus the Mets but he couldn’t get bailed out by his offense or defense when in a hole. Tom Gordon got the loss in the third game on a close play at the plate. In the Mets series, the offense was sporadic and would score late in games, which only was enough in the first game. All the offense does it hit homers or get out. Not enough manufactured runs from this offense. If they play like that versus New York all year, they’ll be fighting for a wild card.

In the Cubs series, Brett Myers looked great in his start, giving up 3 solo home runs in 8 innings pitched as the Phillies won 5-3. He showed he can go deep into the game and keep his pitch count low. Hopefully he keeps this up for the remainder of the year. Cole Hamels got the start in the second game as they cruised to a 7-1 win. He went 7, giving up no runs and one hit but threw a lot of pitches, therefore not finishing the game. The offense was good as well as Shane Victorino and Ryan Howard are both starting to come around and Pat Burrell is continuing his strong start. Moyer got beat up a little in the third game but it came down to the bullpen again failing on the Phillies.

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.

My name is Justin Evans and I hope you enjoy the site.
