Nothing exciting to report lately

Wednesday, December 26, 2007 · 0 Comments

There's been nothing really to report. Sports in Philly have been boring if not depressing. The Eagles are eliminated from the playoffs, the Flyers are on a 6-game losing streak (2 points), and the Sixers are having another dismal season. The only bright spot is the Phillies can't depress us with blowing it even though their front office has been dormant other than siging Jenkins and Taguchi and trading for Lidge.

Flyers Win, Sixers Lose

Thursday, November 29, 2007 · 0 Comments

Does Snider care about the Sixers?

Last night the 76ers lost to the Utah Jazz 106-95. The Sixers coming off a nice win last night over the Bucks failed to come out with the same intensity. After down 13-2 early, they battled back and held the league through much of the first half, but fell behind by 5 at half time and never inched closer. They have yet to win consecutive games all season. National League MVP Jimmy Rollins was at the game.

In positive news, the Philadelphia Flyers welcomed Derian Hatcher back to the line-up and he put the Flyers on the board first in the second period. Kimmo Timonen and Mike Knuble, who had a goal and 2 assists, on the night added two more goals for the Flyers to beat the Hurricanes 3-1. Biron was phenomenal in the win as he had 40 saves.

Thanks to the NHL and Youtube, you are left with highlights from the game.

Flyers Sign Coburn to 2 year extension

Wednesday, November 28, 2007 · 0 Comments

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Braydon Coburn to a two-year extension believed to be worth $2.6 million ($1.3 annual cap hit.).

“Braydon is a good young defenseman that we believe will continue to get better,” said Holmgren in making the announcement.

"It feels good, absolutely,” said Coburn. “This really was not planned. The Flyers just contacted my agent and said that they were interested in getting a deal done right now and so that is what we did. I'm excited.”

Another Exaggeration

Scott Hartnell has suffered the wrath of the Flyers' reputation with the NHL after he was suspended for two games because another Bruins player put himself in a situation to be hurt.

Listen to the over-exaggeration of the Bruins announcers. Watch in slow motion where Hartnell tries to slow up.

Well with this suspension, we may see Downie brought up.

The NHL is such a fucking joke.

In other news

Simon Gagne might be out another month.

Gagne began to exercise last week, but when his symptoms returned following the elevation of his heart rate, the Flyers winger was told to rest.
Danny Briere has been awarded with the First Star for last week. He led all players in scoring last week with 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists).

Is Randy Jones A Target?

Monday, November 26, 2007 · 0 Comments

Tonight, the Boston Bruins are in town for the first face off since the Randy Jones-Patrice Bergeron incident. If you don't remember:

You have to wonder if Randy Jones will be a target of retaliation tonight as Patrice Bergeron has yet to play since his head slammed into the boards. Lucic and Thornton are out for Boston, so the 'tough' guys are pretty much out for Boston.

Also, if there will be any retaliation, I expect it to take place back up in Boston on March 15th.

Tune in tonight at 7 on ComcastSportsnet.

The Flyers finally set the tempo in the first period and they never looked back. They outplayed the Penguins the entire night. Marty Biron made 26 saves in the victory. Also, the Flyers were the first team all season to kill every penalty against the Penguins.

Derian Hatcher Out For a Month

Thursday, November 1, 2007 · 0 Comments

The Philadelphia Flyers big, slow defenseman, Derian Hatcher, has had surgery on his ailing knee and he is expected to miss up to a month. The Flyers have called up Nate Guenin from the Phantoms to replace him. ESPN

Also, Simon Gagne is still out as he failed his concussion test.

Want some good injury news? Fan favorite, Scottie Upshall returns to action tonight to give the Flyers wingers a much needed boost. Watch him and the rest of the Flyers play tonight vs Montreal on Comcast Sportsnet. The game starts at 7:30.

Also, if you're bored, check out the Phantoms. They're 8-1-0 in the AHL right now, holding a 5 point lead in the AHL's East Division.

Broad Street Bullies

As you may have heard over the weekend, Randy Jones hit Patrice Bergeron from behind and for awhile it looked like Bergeron was dead on the ice. Randy Jones received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct. There has been plenty of talk about another suspension, but there is no way that the Jones suspension should be anymore than undetermined suspension, if any, for this hit. Volchenkov hits Booth.

What do you think Jones suspension should be, if any?

...Oh Florida

Friday, October 26, 2007 · 0 Comments

The Flyers went 0 for Florida to start of their 8 game road trip. Now, the 6-3-0 Flyers travel to face the Bruins for a matinee game on Saturday. The Flyers played last night without Derian Hatcher who was given a rest and Simon Gagne who is still experiencing dizziness. The Lightening never trailed in their 5-2 victory. Scott Hartnell failed to record a goal again, but at least he recorded a fight defeat to Vinny Lecavalier.

I am not too fond of John Stevens' decision to start Biron vs the Panthers and Niittymaki for Tampa Bay, but I am not sure if it would have really mattered. The Flyers are lacking in attack time recently, their power play has lucked ugly at times, and their giving up far too many shots.

They will get a much needed boost on November 1st against Montreal as Scottie Upshall is expected to return to action.

The Flyers need to put an end to this streak and start another win streak. I cannot handle another really hot/really cold team in Philadelphia right now.

Don't count on Forsberg

Thursday, October 25, 2007 · 0 Comments

Peter Forsberg is unlikely to become a Philadelphia Flyers for the third time. Forsberg expects to make a decision by November 15th and the top candidates are Colorado and Ottawa. It is rumored that Forsberg is looking for a deal somewhere around 3 years, 5 million.

If the Flyers could sign Forsberg to a one year contract, that'd be great, but definitely nothing long-term because we have a lot of restricted free agents in the next coming years, starting with the assistant captain, Mike Richards.

Flyers Streak Ends!

The Flyers five game winning streak was snapped last night in Sunrise, Florida. Luckily for them, no one was there to see it. The Flyers lost 4-3 last night after battling back from a 2 goal deficit to even the score in the second period. The youngsters of Carter, Umberger, Richards, and Lopul continued to shine, but the Flyers eventually just gave up too many chances to the Panthers. Marty Biron stopped 38 shots in the loss.

Simon Gagne left the bench midway through the first period after experiencing dizziness when his head connected with Jay Bouwmeester's elbow. There was no penalty called on the play. He is listed as day-to-day.

Tonight, the Flyers are back in action against the Tampa Bay Lightening. You can watch the game on Comcast Sportsnet beginning at 7:30.

Other news, Marty Biron was named the NHL's First Star of the Week.
