Brown and Clemons Return to Practice

Wednesday, September 3, 2008 · 0 Comments

The Eagles' "Blog Head" is reporting that both WR Reggie Brown and DE Chris Clemons will be returning to practice today to prepare for the season opener against the Rams.

Currently, the Eagles are lacking strong depth at both positions and they need both Brown and Clemons in Sunday's game to make an impact.

Also, just beware...the Eagles are 3-6 in season opener's during his career. He made the playoffs in 6 of those 9 years.

The Eagles D-Line is dropping like flies.

First, the Eagles received news that defensive end Victor Abiamiri will likely be out about 4 months and today newly acquire Chris Clemons was carted off the field due to dehydration. He was taken to the hospital and released, but it is unclear on when he will return to the field.

By the end of practice, only four defensive ends remained: Parker, McDougle, Cole, and Howard.

Outside of Cole, it leaves us with an undersized Parker and two busts in McDougle and Darren Howard. This situation only compounds the other defensive injuries with Bunkley, Samuel, and rookies Bryant Smith, and Trevor Laws.

It's early and the only severe injury has been to Abiamiri. If it was the season, just about every starter would be able to play. It seems as if outside the injury bug, this has been a rather slow camp news wise. Of course, we've had the contract issues of Westbrook and Lito Sheppard, but they're moreso letting their agents do the work than doing talking about themselves for themselves. Shawn Andrews is still missing a camp and that is a huge letdown. I understand that the guy is pissed about his deal for next year, but he did sign the contract.

Offensively, Lorenzo Booker has been reported to look like a playmaker that the Eagles looked for and Brian Westbrook approves. [Daily News]

We got a guy they liked in the third round in 2007 for a fourth round pick in 2008. It was definitely a great move.

The Eagles have yet to see much from rookie DeSean Jackson yet who has a sore hamstring. We'll see what happens closer to preseason. Here is a complete injury update from the Eagles.

Eagles Sign Chris Clemons

Saturday, March 1, 2008 · 0 Comments

On the second day of the free agency period, the Eagles have found themselves a "pass-rushing" specialist in ex-Raider Chris Clemons. According to Dave Spadaro, the Eagles agreed to a 5 year contract with Clemons.

Update: Well it is now about 6:30 and I've yet to see the money involved in Clemons deal, so now I will evaluate it.

First, the guy seems all smiles and had more nice things to say about the organization.

As far as Clemons goes, he'll likely be involved in a four-man rotation with Trent Cole, Juqua Thomas, and Victor Abiamiri. Clemons played linebacker in college and early in his career, but finally made the full shift to defensive end last season. Participating in only 37% of the defensive snaps, Clemons had 8 sacks last year, which tied him for the team lead with former Eagle, Derrick Burgess. He will be used primarily in pass-rush situations because he is very quick off the end. I do not expect him to be in there against the rush much at all, because he is a little undersized. His former defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, said that Clemons is fast off the edge and is a tough player.

The Eagles have had a nice first two days of free agency by upgrading the defensive. Now they can turn to offense and start focusing on how to use their 9 picks in the draft whether they use them all for picks or package them to make some trades.
