Eagles Sign Chris Clemons

Saturday, March 1, 2008 ·

On the second day of the free agency period, the Eagles have found themselves a "pass-rushing" specialist in ex-Raider Chris Clemons. According to Dave Spadaro, the Eagles agreed to a 5 year contract with Clemons.

Update: Well it is now about 6:30 and I've yet to see the money involved in Clemons deal, so now I will evaluate it.

First, the guy seems all smiles and had more nice things to say about the organization.

As far as Clemons goes, he'll likely be involved in a four-man rotation with Trent Cole, Juqua Thomas, and Victor Abiamiri. Clemons played linebacker in college and early in his career, but finally made the full shift to defensive end last season. Participating in only 37% of the defensive snaps, Clemons had 8 sacks last year, which tied him for the team lead with former Eagle, Derrick Burgess. He will be used primarily in pass-rush situations because he is very quick off the end. I do not expect him to be in there against the rush much at all, because he is a little undersized. His former defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, said that Clemons is fast off the edge and is a tough player.

The Eagles have had a nice first two days of free agency by upgrading the defensive. Now they can turn to offense and start focusing on how to use their 9 picks in the draft whether they use them all for picks or package them to make some trades.
