Upper Moreland Advances, High School Playoff Update

Upper Moreland advanced to its' first District title game in history with a 33-14 win over Owen J. Roberts Friday night. The Golden Bears (10-1) were lead by running back Chris Smallwood who had 189 rushing yards and 3 TDs. Upper Moreland scored 14 points in the last minutes in the game to put the game away. They now move on to face second-seeded Bayard Rustin (11-1) for a spot in the State Playoffs in AAA. Rustin defeated Pottsgrove, 21-13. The game will take place Friday night at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School at 7:30.

Catholic League Champion Archbishop Wood dismantled Public League Champion Dobbins Tech, 56-6, to win the District 12 championship and will play the winner of Upper Moreland-Bayard Rustin in two weeks.

In AAAA action, The top-seeded North Penn Knights (12-0) beat ninth-seeded Abington (9-3) with a 42-14 win. Friday, the Knights will host Ches-Mont Champion Downingtown West (11-1) who defeated Conestoga (9-3), 28-21.

In the other half of the District One bracket, The Neshaminy Redskins (11-1) rolled to a 31-3 victory over Ridley (9-3). The Redskins will travel on Friday to Garnet Valley (12-0), who advanced with a narrow 14-12 victory over Pennsbury.

La Salle (9-2) defeated Father Judge to win the AAAA Catholic League Championship, 28-20. The Explorers face the 9-1 AAAA Public League Champion Washington Eagles who defeated Northeast High School, 41-34. La Salle and Washington square off at Northeast for the District 12 Title.

Actually, this is not Upper Moreland's first district title game in history. In 2006, UM played for the District title but lost to Garnet Valley.

I think you are mistaken as I don't remember them winning two playoff games that year. I will double check my facts though.
