Flyers Fall Again in the Igloo

Friday, November 14, 2008 ·

Make that eight straight losses at The Igloo. The Flyers fell behind 3-0 early in the second period, but exploded for 4 goals including one with only 4 seconds remaining in the 2nd period. However, the Penguins had late game success again when Sidney Crosby took advantage of a bad Mike Richards turnover to tie it at 4. It looked like something would finally go right against the Flyers, but Murphy's Law struck again.

The game went to a shoot-out and after of a number of rounds, but Alex Goligoski scored the lone shoot-out goal. Biron was able to stop Malkin, Crosby, Sykora, and Satan. Before Goligoski's goal, Mike Richards was robbed by Danny Sabourin and Timonen hit the crossbar.

The Flyers comeback began when Jeff Carter deflected in a floated from Scott Hartnell to make it 3-1. The following two goals came via the shorthanded magnificence of Simon Gagne and Mike Richards. Gagne was able to net 2 consecutive shorthanded goals to tie the game up, with his first one being on a sick deke. The Flyers go-ahead goal came with 4 seconds left in the period when Joffrey Lupul deflected a shot right over Marc-Andre Fluery and it landed in the net.

The orange and black were still unable to finish the job and they allowed more points to slip away. They've already suffered 4 over-time losses and their record fell to 5-6-3. It's getting to a point in the season where some changes need to be made. The non-aggressive style is not what we're used to in Philadelphia. It is causing the team to play a conservative, sit-back game, which normally allows for a lot of opposing goals. They're getting beat to pucks and they've yet to play a full hockey game outside of beating Atlanta. It was so bad last night that Sidney Crosby lead all players in hits.
