Flyers Sweep Home & Home with NJ

Sunday, October 26, 2008 ·

The Flyers took game two of their home & home with the New Jersey Devils yesterday, 3-2 in overtime. They had beaten the Devils Friday night in Newark. The Flyers have now won two straight after starting the season 0-3-3. Saturday's game included some fireworks, literally, as a smoke bomb was thrown onto the ice as the Flyers had a goal disallowed in overtime. This after a game full of hitting, and fighting.
Scott Hartnell lead the way with three goals this weekend (two Friday, one Saturday) as Jeff Carter scored two goals (one Friday, one Saturday), including the Game Winner Saturday. Mike Knuble also had a goal in each game and Simon Gagne & Joffrey Lupul chipped in a goal apiece on Friday.

The Flyers clearly played their best games so far this season, and the results show. They next head to Atlanta to play the 2-4-2 Thrashers on a Versus nationally televised game.

Jeff Carter is now tied for 5th in the NHL with six goals. Mike Richards is among the top 15 in points with ten. Danny Briere missed his second game after undergoing abdominal surgery. Simon Gagne returned to the lineup Friday after missing Wednesday's game with the Sharks with the flu.

Riley Cote got into two scraps yesterday, which brings his season total to six in eight games. Arron Asham took on the Devils' Mike Rupp in the second period, at the same time Cote was fighting Devils toughguy Pierre-Luc Letorneau-Leblond. Asham and Rupp were subsequently ejected.

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.
