Win and they Clinch

The Phillie did their job and beat the Washington Nationals 8-4 on a misty night in Philly. Ryan Howard provided the early fireworks with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first. Chase Utley followed the Ryan Howard show up in the 2nd with a 3-run double to give the Phillies a 6-1 lead. Howard followed immediately with a double of his own to give the Phillies a 7-1 lead.

The Nationals pushed it to a 7-4 game, but the Phillies added a run late on a passed ball to make it 8-4. The bullpen recorded the final 9 outs after Blanton went 6 innings giving up 4 runs, but only 2 earned. And then it was time to scoreboard watch...

The Mets lost to the Florida Marlins 5-1 tonight, lowering the magic # to 1. If the Phillies win tomorrow, they're in. If they win tomorrow, they can give Hamels rest and use him in game 1 of the playoffs. If they win, everyone can relax. If they win, my heart will not explode. Thank you Florida Marlins. For two straight years, we've appreciated your effort for us.

In other playoff news, the Brewers took a 1 game lead over the New York Mets by beating the Chicago Cubs 5-1. Yes, the Mets collapse has taken full circle again as they are on the outside looking in, on the final weekend.

Also, it should not matter, but the Phillies clinched at least a one game playoff for the division. Jamie Moyer will take us to glory tomorrow.

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.

My name is Justin Evans and I hope you enjoy the site.
