Holy shit, when was the last time the Sixers actually had a power forward that could post up and actually score in the paint? DC, maybe? No need to worry anymore because the Sixers and Elton Brand have verbally agreed on a 5 year contract worth $82 million according to ESPN.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that Brand has informed the Sixers that he will accept a five-year deal worth an estimated $82 million and spurn what was presumed to be a slam-dunk return to the Los Angeles Clippers to hook up with Clipper-to-be Baron Davis. As mentioned earlier in the day, the Sixers traded Rodney Carney, Calvin Booth, and a future first-round draft pick to Minnesota for a future seonc round pick.
The Sixers cannot formally sign Brand before midnight, with Wednesday serving as the first day NBA teams can officially complete signings and trades after the lifting of a leaguewide moratorium, which began July 1.
Elton Brand will provide the post player that the Sixers have lacked for years and the Sixers should be a rebounding force with Brand and Dalembert in the front court, Young on the wing, and Iguodala and Miller in the back court. Also, the Sixers still have big-time rebounder Reggie Evans to come off the bench along with Jason Smith and first-round pick Mareese Speights.
Thank you Ed Stefanski. Please try to bring us a title. Now, go sign Iguodala and Louis Williams!
