Flyers Keep Winning, Up 3-1

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 ·

The Flyers extended their series lead to 3-1 by beating the Canadiens 4-2 after surrending another 2-0 lead late in the third. Montreal committed a dumb penalty to give the Flyers the PP and Daniel Briere 30 seconds of the man advantage to notch the game winner with 3:38 seconds left. R.J. Umberger added his second goal of the night when he out hustled the Montreal skaters for the empty-net wrap around.

R.J. Umberger started the scoring in the second period with a power play goal that he put right under Halak's right arm. It stayed 1-0 going into the third period, but early in the third period, Vinny Prospal's shot went off the crossbar and bounced right to Scott Hartnell who fired it in the back of the net to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead and the Philly crowd was ecstatic. However, with just under 7 minutes left in the period the Canadiens took less than a minute to make it 2-2. The crowd was silenced and everyone thought, "Oh no, not again."

Fortune came back our way as Canadien forward Steve Begin was called for an interference penalty away from the play with just under 4:00 minutes left. Daniel Briere put in the rebound of a Vinny Prospal shot to give the Flyers the lead with 3:38 left.

Martin Biron continued to be amazing as he stopped 36 of Montreal's 38 shots and was named first star of the game.

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.

My name is Justin Evans and I hope you enjoy the site.
