The Losing Streak Ends! Flyers Win!

Monday, February 25, 2008 ·

Tonight, the Flyers battled back from an early 3 goal deficit to earn their first victory in their last eleven tries. The Flyers defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 with a shoot-out victory as Daniel Briere scored the shoot-out winner in his former home arena.

Derek Roy and Clarke MacArthur took advantage of two Flyer's turnovers and scored 11 seconds apart. Immediately after MacArthur's goal, coach John Stevens called a time-out. Eight minutes later, Jason Pomminville scored to put the Sabres up 3-0, but Jeff Carter quickly scored a break-away goal due to a pretty pass from Mike Knuble 17 seconds later. Less than 2 minutes later, Scott Hartnell scored his 20th goal on the season. The score remained 3-2 until RJ Umberger tied to the game on the power-play with a little more than 7 minutes left in the third.

Both team were held scoreless through the rest of regulation and overtime. Ales Kotalik scored for Buffalo in the shoot-out. Carter and Briere scored for the Flyers. It seemed fitting that the Flyers earned their first shoot-out win on the season, previously 0-4, to end their 10 game losing streak.

If you missed the game, you can watch the replay tomorrow on Versus at 5 PM.

Tough games ahead when they host Ottawa on Thursday and then face both NY team this weekend.
