Big High School Match Up in South Jersey Saturday

Thursday, November 1, 2007 ·

I may be writing this out of favoritism but on Saturday November 3 at 2PM, and epic battle on the high school gridiron will take place. In Hammonton, NJ, the Holy Spirit Spartans, my alma matre (Roose), will take on the home team St. Joe's Wildcats.

St. Joe's has won 7 of 8 meetings in the young rivalry including the last 2 meetings. Holy Spirit last won in 2004 by a score of 13-9 in Absecon.

For the third straight year, this mathup is the most anticipated matchup of the year. St. Joe's won last year 21-14 in a game that should have been Spirit's.

St. Joe's has always been the the heavy favorite but not this year as Holy Spirit is now South Jersey's powerhouse. They are featuring record breaking running back William Washington, who rushed for a Cape Atlantic League record 1800+ yards last year. His defensive co-captain is Marcus Witherspoon, the Spartans 4-yeare starting defensive end who has verbally commited to Michigan. St. Joe's is led by running back/linebacker Keith Corcoran, younger brother of Rutgers back up fullback, Jack.

Spirit is ranked #1 in South Jersey and is ranked #4 in the state of New Jersey. They are heavy favorites to win the Non-Public Group 3 championship this year.

It is not Philly related even though it's only an hour from Philly.I just wanted to let you guys know how big this game is going to be.
