Lupul's 4 year extension

Sunday, July 20, 2008 · 1 Comments

Earlier this week, I posted a myspace bulletin regarding Lupul signing a 4 year deal. Now more and more places are reporting what is expected to be a 4 year, $17 million extension.

Lupul, who doesn't turn 25 years old until September, will only be receiving a little less than a $2 million raise. Not bad at all for a guy that had 46 points in 56 games and would have played more games if he had not been destroyed by Derian Hatcher, his own player.

Most of the reports say that the announcement will be made tomorrow.
Lupul who is still young is already a very valuable second line right winger and could develop into a first line right winger. Averaging nearly a point a game last year, Lupul seemed to find a lot of chemistry with centerman Mike Richards. When coming over to Philadelphia, Lupul was much more physical of a player and it opened a side of him we rarely saw in Anaheim and Edmonton. It good to know that the Flyers now ensured that three of their young 20 goal scorers will be around for at least the next 3 seasons and moreso in the cases of Mike Richards and Joffrey Lupul.

It's scary to sit back and look how far this young core went without that guy who had back to back 40 goal seasons...oh yeah, Simon Gagne. Because the move is an extension, the salary cap numbers will not be changed, as he will likely keep his current cap hit.

Lupul, Downie, Hatcher Out, Coburn In -- Make it 7!

Sunday, February 17, 2008 · 0 Comments

As the Flyers try to end their current losing streak, they will be doing so without wingers Steve Downie and Joffrey Lupul. Steve Downie has an upper body injury and he will be evaluated during the game. Lupul has a high ankle sprain and will be out indefinitely. Derian Hatcher is still battling a sore knee. The good news is that defenseman Braydon Coburn will return to the lineup.

Lets see if the Flyers can end their current 6 game losing streak as well as attempt to not be swept in the season series by Montreal.

Niittymaki will get his 2nd straight start.

Flyers lost their 7th straight game and have been swept in the season series by Montreal.

Lupul Returns to Action

Saturday, February 9, 2008 · 0 Comments

Today, Flyers' right winger, Joffrey Lupul, will return to action when the Flyers host the New York Rangers. Lupul has been out of the lineup since his January 5th collision with Derian Hatcher to caused him to have a spinal cord contusion and mild concussion.

During practice yesterday, Lupul skated with Richards and Gagne. With Scottie Upshall out for at least a week, coach John Stevens has place Danny Briere with Scott Hartnell and Steve Downie.

John Stevens said,

“I think putting Danny with Hartnell and Downie, who is relentless on the cycle, is a really good fit for Danny. I’d like to see Danny become more of a scorer on his line. He’s such an unselfish guy. I think at times when he could take the puck to the net he’s looking to pass it off. To me, the strength of his game is the first option he gets to attack, that he does.

“Richie and Lupul play really well together, and I do think it gives us size and some grit and some energy on all of our lines. It’s a nice balanced attack for scoring, and it gives us a balanced attack in terms of size and grit and skill all combined on each line.”
Tune in today at 1PM to watch the Flyers battle the Rangers. I think today is a must-win as we play Pittsburg tomorrow afternoon.

The Philadelphia Flyers have finally won two straight for the first time since November 12th after they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 to start their 6 game road-trip.

Joffrey Lupul continue his hot play by scoring on a penalty shot and adding two assists to post 18 points in his last 9 games.

Mike Knuble, Kimmo Timonen, and Scott Hartnell all added goals as well. Hartnell and Knuble had PP goals which allowed us to extend our streak of Powerplay goals in now 13 straight games.

Martin Biron stopped 31 of 33 shots.

The Flyers travel to Sunrise for 5:00 PM showdown with the Panthers tomorrow.

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.
