Flyers Move Into Tie with Penguins for 2nd

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 ·

It was not the prettiest of games, but despite some weak ones allowed by Marty Biron, he earned his 9th straight win over the Islanders. The Flyers 4-3 win was there their 14th in 21 games since starting the season off 0-3-3. It was their 10th win in their last 14 games. Even when they're playing bad hockey, they're still finding a way to win.

After falling behind 2-0 in a span of a minute, the Flyers battled back and scored three straight goals. The first two were netted by the unlikely folk in Aaron Asham and Darroll Powe. It was Powe's first NHL goal. The goal that gave the Flyers a 3-2 was scored by none other than Jeff Carter, who remains tied for the league lead with 20 goals.

After Marty Biron allowed a "change-up" as the announcers called it to tie the game, Simon Gagne scored the game-winner on the power play with about nine minutes left. The Islanders had some chances late, but thankfully they were unable to put anything home.

With the win, the Flyers move in to a tie for 2nd place in the Atlantic Division. Quite the turn-around after they started the season off so poorly. The Flyers are only 4 points behind the division leading New York Rangers, with three games in hand. Sure, there is plenty of season left, but it is nice to see the Flyers playing consistent winning hockey. Hopefully, we do not have to witness another mid-season tailspin again. Yes, the Flyers are not going to continue on this pace of winning hockey. The Flyers have been able to register at least a point in 20 of their 27 games this year. Now matter how it looks from game-to-game, in the overall spectrum, that is damn good hockey.
