Near Trifecta

Sunday, September 7, 2008 ·

Philadelphia nearly experienced a trifecta of victories today, but the Phillies failed to sweep the day-night double header.

First, the Eagles opened up the season with a bang as they domintated the St. Louis Rams 38-3. DeSean Jacksonuncorked his season hype by totaling up 197 total yards. Donovan McNabb looked like the McNabb we used to love as he threw for 361 yards and 3 TDs. Seven different receivers found the ball make way to their hands today.

The defensive unit was stellar, holding the Rams to only 166 yards of total offense. Check in tomorrow to read our Monday Morning Review of the game.

The Phillies won the first half of the double-header 6-2 by a strong start from Jamie Moyer. The Phillies offense got a big lift from Greg Dobbs who delivered again; this time with a 3-run home run in the fourth. Moyer only allowed 2 hits in 7 innings of work.

Tonight's game was a different story as Johan Santana and the Mets overcame an early 1-0 Phillies lead in the first. The Phillies failed in an opportunity to tie the Mets for first and now they find themselves 2 games back. However, not all is negative. They still won the series, which is something they did not do at all this year. Ryan Howard hit his 40th home run, but it wasn't enough for the Phils behind a below average start from Cole Hamels. Hopefully this division race continues right down to the end.
