Wait? Another Blue-Liner?

The Flyers have acquired defenseman Tim Ramholt from Calgary for forward Kyle Greentree. The move has now boosted the battle for the final pairing to 5 guys in Ramholt, Parent, Eminger, Kukkonen, and the guy I forgot we acquired in Danny Syvret.

UPDATE: Janne Niskala has been traded to Tampa Bay for a 2009 6th round pick. What a waste of a trade. I'd rather have him than Ramholt.

Ramholt, 23, had four goals and 20 assists in 77 games for Quad City of the AHL last season. He played one game – and did not score – for Calgary.

Selected by the Flames in the second round of the 2003 draft, Ramholt (6-1, 194) had six goals and 30 assists in 144 career AHL games with Quad City and Omaha over the past two seasons. He also played two seasons in the Swiss-A league and one in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The 24-year-old Greentree had 24 goals and 24 assists in 72 games for the Phantoms last season. He was scoreless in two games with the Flyers, who signed him as a free agent in March of last year.
The Flyers definitely have no shortage of blue line depth like they had last season. Right now, the Flyers currently have 10 NHL or borderline defensemen under contract and they have an offer out for Randy Jones.

Kyle Greentree was not likely to see space on the NHL roster any time soon and he's not going to stay in the AHL forever. The Phantoms however have practically lost their top players from last year in Greentree and Potulny to trades.
