A look at the Eastern/Western Conference Finals

Monday, May 5, 2008 ·

The Conference Finals are here and not a moment too soon. Expect some great hockey in the East and some one sided hockey in the West. We may see a 1997 Stanley Cup rematch on our hands. Here's a look into the match-ups.

Eastern Conference Finals:
#6 Philadelphia Flyers vs #2 Pittsburgh Penguins

After taking down the Capitols in 7 games and handling the Canadiens in 5, it seems that the Flyers found their rhythm in the playoffs. Riding on great goaltending by Marty Biron and the hot play of Danny Brierre and RJ Umberger, the confidence and momentum is looking strong for the Flyers. Their toughest challenges await them in the ECF as they face the Penguins.

Pittsburgh is hot. They swept the pushover Senators and beat up on a Rangers team that lacked a solid defense. Sidney Crosby, Marrian Hossa, and Evengi Malkin will be tough for the young Flyers defense but they aren't afraid of these 3 stars, that's for sure. Officiating is going to be a huge factor in this series as they continue to protect the pride and joy of the NHL in Crosby.
Pick: Flyers in 7

Western Conference Finals:
#5 Dallas Stars vs. #1 Detroit Red Wings

The Wings have been on fire in the playoffs, beating the Predators in 6 and sweeping the Avalanche. Their team is simply phenominal, a mix of old and young players full of fire. They will truely be a tough team to beat.

The Stars are coming off a scare by the Sharks, winning in 6. They also beat the Ducks in 6 games in the first round. I don't see them doing much against Detroit, especially after not playing good hockey for the end of the San Jose series.
Pick: Red Wings in 4

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.

My name is Justin Evans and I hope you enjoy the site.
