Too Many Turnovers!
The Flyers brought their 'D' game to Pittsburgh tonight as they coughed the puck up often, mostly unforced, as the Penguins took advantage of the many turnovers to put four of them in the net. If this team wants any chance to bounce back in game 2, they really needs to handle the puck better.
Another adjustment that needs to be made is that Randy Jones needs to return to the second PP line and the Flyers need to move Coburn to the top PP line. Coburn's slapshot off the one-timer is needed on that top line specifically with Mike Knuble screening Fluery in front. The powerplay had some good chances on their first opportunity, but looked absolutely clueless the rest of the way, including that costly turnover on Malkin's 15-foot, cherry-picking, slap shot goal. (Sorry, I just had to say it.)
As expected, things started to heat up late in the game and it may carry over into game 2. I'd expect Stevens to shuffle the defensive pairings a little, at least I'd hope so. The Flyers will need to come out strong and pepper Fluery with plenty of shots, something they did to start this game, but their attack faded until late in the third period. We'll see what happens, don't count us out yet. Game 2 is Sunday @ 7:30, but sadly on Versus. Their announcers are intolerable.
