The Phillies have signed veteran left-handed reliever Steve Kline to a minor-league contract and he will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a week.
Last season, Kline pitched in 46 innings and posted a 4.70 ERA, with 18 walks and 17 strike-outs. Kline could be an average left-handed reliever if JC Romero would happen to go down. With Mike Zagurski facing another surgery, the Phillies have no other left-handed major league arms to step in if need be.
