Ed Snider and Cordish Company's David Cordish unveiled their plan for "Philly Live" today. It will be a 240,000 square foot retail, dining, and entertainment complex. The project is likely a year away from breaking ground.
Philly Live! calls for a hotel with residential condos, as well as a plaza area that would have shops, restaurants, entertainment and other attractions. According to the artists’ renditions of the project, the hotel portion would sit on the site occupied by the Spectrum, which was the long-time home to the 76ers and Flyers before the teams moved to the Wachovia Center in 1996. These days the Spectrum hosts many events, including concerts and shows, the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Flyers’ minor-league affiliate, Philadelphia Phantoms. The Spectrum was was built in 1967 by Snider for the Flyers and the Sixers, who has a special affinity for the building.
