Flyers Beat Panthers 5-3

Wednesday, January 16, 2008 ·

The Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 5-3 at the Wachovia Center to continue their recent hot play [8-1-1 in their last 10].

After jumping out to an early 4-1 lead, the Flyers hard to work hard to keep the lead as the Panthers made it 4-3 in the second period. Led by a few great Niittymaki saves, held on strong and Danny Briere put the game away with an empty-net goal.

Kimmo Timonen started the scoring in the first period when he beat Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun top shelf with a wrister. Bouwmeester evened the scoring for Florida when he was wide open in the slot because Daniel Briere forgot about him moving into the zone.

Three minutes later, Simon Gagne scored on the power play [Flyers have scored a power play goal in 16 of 18 games]. Danny Briere [PPG] and Scott Hartnell added goals four and five minutes later to put the Flyers up 4-1 going into the second period.

The Panthers scored two goals in the second period and that was the only scoring for the rest of the game until Danny Briere's empty net goal in the final minute of the third.

Antero Niittymaki has 28 saves in the win. Kimmo Timonen had a goal and two assists.
