Forsberg Signs with Avalanche

Put away your Peter Forsberg jerseys, well unless you own an Avalanche version, because he has just sign with Colorado according to TSN. He has signed a year deal to return for the rest of the season.

"Over the last several months, I have worked extremely hard in order for this to be possible. I am looking forward to putting this jersey on again," said Forsberg. "I have so many great memories of my playing days in Denver. I'm excited about helping my new teammates and former teammates in the coming weeks, and hopefully I am able to do that in the very near future."

This should be almost dead news because Flyers' fans pretty much knew he wasn't going to return with us and their recent tailspin definitely ended those chances. As far as trading before tomorrow's deadline, I still do not believe it is not worth it for the Flyers to mortgage their future for some rental player because we'd be getting back into the way Bobby Clarke ran things and well all know what that did for us. Absolutely nothing.

Forsberg says No to NHL

According to TSN, Peter Forsberg is not returning to the NHL this year.

''The prospect of Peter having enough confidence in the foot-skate issue to commit to being able to play in the NHL this season isn't where it needs to be at this moment,'' Baizley told TSN. ''As a result, teams are being told it is unlikely he will be able to commit to return to the NHL this season.''

Forsberg Decision Tomorrow?

From the Toronto Sun:

"The last I heard is Peter is going to decide probably by (tomorrow) whether he's going to play," Holmgren said yesterday.

Many media outlets have said the same thing, but I am not sure if it'll ever happen with all the recent talk. I've also read reports that he will likely not sign with the Flyers, largely due to their recent rash if injuries and losses.

In other surprising news, according to HockeyBuzz, Flyers winger prospect Claude Giroux will make his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators. Claude Giroux has been playing for the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Currently, he leads the league in points with 88 (33 goals, 55 assists) in 47 games. He is rated as the Flyers third best prospect behind JVR and Downie.

Forsberg Update

Everything seems to be quiet on the Forsberg front. GM Paul Holmgren has not heard from Forsberg on whether or not he is healthy enough to commit to play and with whom he'll chose to return. A source in Europe has said Forsberg's only decision now is whether he is healthy to play. If he does return, it'll be with the Flyers.

Forsberg Decision Looming?

Yesterday, Peter Forsberg eliminated a number of teams from his possible NHL destinations. Philadelphia still remains at the top of his list along with Ottawa, New York, Colorado, and Vancouver.

The Flyers' equipment and medical staff are gearing up for Forsberg's possible arrival, according to the sources.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren, who is known to keep his Forsberg cards close, said yesterday that he has not heard anything from Forsberg's agent Don Baizley.

Meanwhile, Forsberg has not made it official that he is going to make a comeback beyond turning down a contract offer to play in Sweden and authorizing Baizley to start negotiating.

Asked if that worried him, Holmgren said, "He might know. He's just not telling us."

The 34-year-old center continues to practice with his old team, Modo, and is expected to make his decision known within a week.

Flyers and Foppa Talking or are they?

For those of you who have been following the recent Forsberg to the Flyers news, here are some recent updates.

- In a televised interview from Sweden, Forsberg has said he plans to skate in 2-3 weeks.
- If he decides to return to the NHL, he has to sign before February 26 to be eligible for their playoff roster.
- Forsberg also, acknowledged that he may elect to finish the season with Modo of the Swedish league instead.

It's nice to hear that they want me back and I enjoyed my time in the Flyers organization. It's one of many options. I haven't decided even if I will play yet. And I read somewhere that I am only interested in playing for one of the three clubs I've played for (Colorado, Philadelphia and Nashville). But I have never said that. I have a lot of options and Flyers are one of them.
