The News Room: 10/21

A day after the JR Reed wore Tampa Bay Rays attire in the locker room, he has been cut. No, that was not the reason. The Eagles had to make room for newly signed fullback, Kyle Eckel. Eckel is a local boy who grew up rooting for the Eagles.

Despite bouncing around training camps with the Patriots and Dolphins since leaving the military in October of 2006, Eckel saw his first game action in 2007. In 12 career regular season games, all with the Patriots, Eckel ran the ball 33 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns, while also registering 12 special-teams tackles. The special teams experience is something the Eagles not only value from the fullback spot, but require. [Philadelphia Eagles]
Hey, Eckel may become a feel good story, but I think it should be a requirement that the Eagles draft a fullback in next year's draft. They've overlooked this position far too much.

There's Flyers news too! Today, they called up RW Andreas Nodl. Nodl will play along side Jeff Carter and Scottie Upshall. The 21-year old had an impressive camp and it was expected that either he or Claude Giroux would be the first forward called up.

Also, Antero Niittymaki will make his second straight start because he has been far more impressive this season than Biron. He has lost 2 starts in overtime and hopefully he and the Flyers can knock off the Sharks for their first win of this young season. [Philadelphia Flyers]

Lastly, ESPN previewed the 76ers and they feel they'll likely finish 2nd in the Atlantic division. Most experts also see them finishing anywhere between the 3rd-5th seed in the Eastern Conference. There are a lot of expectations for this team, but they'll need time to gel and develop chemistry. [ESPN Preview]

A small introduction...

We Hate to Lose began in October 2007. The initial purpose of the website was to provide news updates and commentary on all four major sports teams in Philadelphia. Because of time-constraints, in April of 2009, I decided to post only on my first-love, the Philadelphia Phillies.

My name is Justin Evans and I hope you enjoy the site.
