Have the Phillies found their replacement for Myers? The 700 level is reporting that Comcast Sportsnet broke the news that the Phillies will be calling up left-handed pitcher R.J. Swindle tomorrow.
Now, is Swindle being called up to add another left-handed arm in the pen or is he going to replace Myers in the rotation? Swindle has yet to make a start all year for Lehigh Valley, but he has posted impressive numbers. He is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 32 strike outs in 23.1 innings. I have yet to find any career numbers that he has as a starter, so I am assuming he will be called up to aid the bullpen, which is in dire need for another left-handed reliever besides J.C. Romero.
In other news, the Phillies have signed first-round pick Anthony Hewitt and he will report to Clearwater later this week. Hewitt received a bonus of $1,380,000 and the Phillies have now been able to sign their first five picks from this year's draft. Hewitt will likely try to develop into a third baseman rather than a short stop. Heading into the draft, it was mentioned that it could be hard to sign Hewitt, but it is great that the Phillies were able to get a deal done. The guy has some pop in his bat and hopefully he pans out.
