Flyers Sign Arron Asham

Monday, July 7, 2008 ·

According to Bill Meltzer, the Flyers have extended Paul Holmgren through 2011-12 and have signed agitator Arron Asham to a one-year contract. Asham is a physical player, but he doesn't offer a whole lot offensively. If he makes the roster, he'd likely play with Cote and Metropolit. Currently, the Flyers are incredibly filled with forwards, but it likely seems that Claude Giroux will not be up to start the season. Giroux could definitely use some seasoning in the AHL. He was the top player in the Quebec league, but that is not the greatest of junior leagues.

With the addition of Asham, the Flyers will have a decent 4th line. However, the Flyers are drastically over the salary cap as we speak, so I would expect a few more moves to happen before the season begins.
