I cannot say that I do not enjoy this. The Mets turmoil of a season grew larger after they fired Willie Randolph in the middle of the night. Minaya also fired pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto. It's pretty hilarious that the man who built the team of egos, Omar Minaya, gets to keep his job.
Minaya has depended largely on aging vets and has depleted their farm system. When Fernando Tatis is one of your call ups, you know there's nothing left. Now, Randolph has never truly been a great manager, but it's hard to put the blame solely on him. It is also believed that pitching coach Rick Peterson did wonders for John Maine and Oliver Perez, but he didn't make the cut either.
I love watching this unfold. Nothing like a good laugh to start the day.
Willie Randolph will be replaced by bench coach Jerry Manuel. Ken Oberkfell and Dan Warthen (pitching coach) will come up from Triple-A New Orleans to join the staff.
