Phillies closer, Brad Lidge, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to his knee injury, joining pitchers Mike Zagurski, Francisco Rosario, and Scott Mathieson. The move is retroactive to March 21, so he will be eligible to be activated April 5, but won't be able to pitch until April 6.
The possibility of this happening has been known for quite awhile. Gordon will become the closer for the five games Lidge will likely miss and Madson and Romero will become the 7th and 8th inning guys.
The Phillies open the season home against Washington and they travel to Cincinatti for a four-game series, followed by a three-game series with the Mets. Lidge is expected back for the third game of the Reds series.
